Who wrote 'We'll Encounter Again' – and what's the story behind the Vera Lynn song?
Originally released in 1939, 'We'll Meet Once again' is a British vocal composed by Ross Parker and Hughie Charles, and sung by Dame Vera Lynn.
Produced by pianist Norman Keen, information technology found its fame during the Second World State of war, resonating with soldiers who had to leave their families and fight for England, and reached No. 29 on the U.S. charts.
Thanks to its moving tune and uplifting lyrics, it was used on the radio during wartime broadcasts, which were designed to provide public information and heave morale after bombing raids.
Following the song'south success, its proper noun was later given to the 1943 musical flick, We'll Meet Again, in which Dame Vera Lynn played the lead part – and in 1964, the recording featured in the final scene of Stanley Kubrick's film, Dr. Strangelove.

In 1942, American jazz clarinetist and bandleader, Benny Goodman, recorded a beautiful version of the song with popular singer of the time, Peggy Lee.
The song has fifty-fifty found its manner into rock concerts – British singer-songwriter, Rod Stewart, and English stone band, Faces, sang an a cappella version of 'We'll Encounter Once again' at many of their gigs during the '70s, while Johnny Greenbacks released a cover on his 2002 studio album, American Iv: The Homo Comes Around.

Who was Matriarch Vera Lynn, and how erstwhile was the wartime singer?
Built-in on 20 March 1917 in East Ham, London, Dame Vera Lynn lived with her female parent Annie, a dressmaker, and her father Bertram, a plumber.
By the age of seven, the talented entertainer had started singing in working men'south clubs and became the family'due south main breadwinner, earlier adopting her grandmother'due south maiden name 'Lynn' as her stage proper noun aged eleven.
